fractal-1147253_1920-1
December has been a key month for the future of the IFMIF-DONES particle accelerator project in Granada. The central Government and the Junta de Andalucía approved the signing of the agreement between the Spanish Government and the Regional Government to establish the Consortium that will support Spain’s candidacy and the construction of the scientific infrastructure ‘International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility -Demo Oriented Neutron Source’ (IFMIF-DONES) and the management of R&D related projects. It is a decisive administrative step, prior to the formalization of the consortium, which will be 50% owned by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and by the Ministry of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities of the Junta de Andalucía.

Last November 10 and 11, members of the 16 international entities involved in the DONES-PreP project participated in its Second General Assembly. This European project is currently developing the preparatory phase for the construction of the IFMIF-DONES particle accelerator in Escúzar, Granada. At this two-day meeting, the participants analysed the lines of work developed in the past year and the milestones to achieve in its second year. Besides the General Assembly, the project also organised its two high-level meetings to discuss key aspects for the management of the European initiative, which had the aim to propose a management, governance, and funding model for IFMIF-DONES. The Council meeting took place on November 23. This body is responsible for monitoring the DONES-PreP project and for the approval of the latest results obtained during its implementation. The second Stakeholders Committee meeting of the project was held online on November 26.
