PhD students of the fusion programme of the University of Manchester attend an online seminar about IFMIF-DONES

About thirty students attended the online talk given by the director of the project, Ángel Ibarra

About thirty students of the PhD fusion programme of the University of Manchester participated last April 7th in an online seminar about the IFMIF-DONES particle accelerator. The talk ‘A neutron source for fusion: The DONES Project’ was given by the director of the project and Head of Fusion Technologies Division (CIEMAT), Ángel Ibarra.

The seminar presented the IFMIF-DONES project, an essential scientific facility for the development of fusion as a source of energy, with particular emphasis on the main existing problems that have to be addressed to characterise the behaviour of the materials in a fusion reactor and the European strategy defined to address this issue.

The director of the project explained the main features of the different systems in DONES and the proposed schedule for the development of the project. IFMIF-DONES is a milestone in the path towards the obtention of energy from nuclear fusion. Spain, through its Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Regional Government of Andalucía, is the European candidate to host this project in Escúzar, in the province of Granada.
