IFMIF-DONES at the Gravite Festival opening

The Technical Director of IFMIF-DONES, Ángel Ibarra, and the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Granada, Enrique Herrera, participated in a discussion panel about the project

The multidisciplinary Gravite Festival is closely linked to IFMIF-DONES. The particle accelerator has been present in the three editions of this event, celebrated in Granada. In its third edition, the opening session focused on the large scientific infrastructure. The Technical Director of IFMIF-DONES, Ángel Ibarra, and the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Granada, Enrique Herrera, participated in the discussion panel at the opening of the festival, which addressed IFMIF-DONES, Granada’s candidacy to host the facility, and the impact it will have at the local, national, and international level.

Ibarra presented scientific and strategic aspects of the accelerator as well as the progress made so far to bring this facility to Escúzar (Granada). The main projects in which the Spanish institutions are participating were also presented, with particular emphasis on the IFMIF-DONES (DONES-PreP) and the DONES UGR and DONES PRIME projects.

Besides the impact this facility will have in the race towards fusion, the Technical Director of IFMIF-DONES explained the importance of this particle accelerator for the scientific and technological development as well as its socioeconomic impact.

The discussion panel, in which the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Granada, Enrique Herrera, also participated was moderated by Cristina González, director of Parque de las Ciencias.
