Gerardo Cuerva is President of the two main economic organisations in Granada, Confederation of Employers in Granada (CGE) and the Chamber of Commerce of Granada. Cuerva is also President of the IT and biotechnological cluster OnTech Innovation and President of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisation (CEPYME). Cuerva confirms in this interview that IFMIF-DONES is the most ambitious project Granada has been involved in ever: the particle accelerator will place Granada on the map of nuclear fusion and high-level scientific research. Also it will attract investment and talent related to R&D.

The DONES Experimental Environmental Station, the first scientific infrastructure of the project, is installed in Escúzar

The planned site for DONES, at Parque Metropolitano, Industrial y Tecnológico de Granada, in Escúzar, already has its first scientific infrastructure. The DONES-Escúzar Experimental Environmental Station is an automatic station observing weather variables in the subsoil, on the surface and in the first layers of the atmosphere. This facility will be devoted to build a history of on-site observations that will be of vital importance for the operation of DONES but also to support other research initiatives related to meteorology and climate in the region.

Induciencia event tackles the future of fusion in Spain and the role of particle accelerator

Induciencia (a Spanish technological platform of science industry) celebrated last March 2 an event on the future of fusion in Spain. The IFMIF-DONES Project was one of the key points given its importance from a technological point of view, as a scientific research infrastructure that requires cutting edge technology.

INTERVIEW

Philippe Cara, IFMIF/EVEDA Project Leader

‘LIPAc validation is a challenge of the utmost importance in the decision-making process to mitigate the risks of the construction of DONES’

Philippe Cara, Project Leader of IFMIF/EVEDA, works at the forefront of the international race towards nuclear fusion. Mr Cara has led the Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc) in Rokkasho for three years, a key infrastructure for the construction of IFMIF-DONES. In this interview he analyzes the role of this scientific infrastructure in the race towards fusion. LIPAc infrastructure has an important role at least for the validation of the equipment to be manufactured, for the optimization of the reliability and for the definition the operation procedures required to run IFMIF-DONES.
